16 March 2001, 12:30  UK DATA SNAP:JOHN LEWIS STORE SALES UP 10.8% Y/Y WK TO MAR 10

LONDON (MktNews) - The UK John Lewis Partnership said Friday its department store sales in the week to March 10 were up 10.8% on the same week a year ago.
Meanwhile, total sales, which includes those of supermarkets, rose 12.1% in the week to March 10 compared with the same week a year ago.
Chris Hunt, director of branch operations, described the level of trade as "excellent" and said an earlier Easter, mild weather and restrictions in the countryside, caused by the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on farms, were factors.
