15 March 2001, 11:05  Japan stocks end morning down 1.4%

Tokyo, March 15 (BridgeNews) - Japan's Nikkei ended the morning 1.4% lower on a broad-based sell-off following Wall Street's drop overnight. The banking sector suffered major selling following an announcement by ratings agency Fitch that it might downgrade 19 major Japanese banks. The Nikkei fell 169.27 points to 11,674.32, after hitting 11,433.88, its lowest level since December 1984.
