15 March 2001, 11:05  Dow ends below 10,000, Nasdaq weak

New York, March 14 (BridgeNews) - The Dow ended below the 10,000 level for the first time in five months and closed at its lowest level since March 14, 2000, as concerns about the economic situation in Japan gave investors another excuse to dump stocks. The S&P 500 fell to a fresh 27-month low while the Nasdaq also ended lower although off its worst levels for the day. The Nasdaq closed down 42.76, or 2.12%, to 1972.02 and the Dow was down 317.34, or 3.08%, to 9973.46. The S&P 500 was down 30.95, or 2.58%, to 1166.71.
