14 March 2001, 14:07  UK export confidence falls in Q1, euro more popular with manufacturers - DHL

LONDON (AFX) - UK manufacturing exporters' long-term confidence is expected to have fallen in the first quarter by four points from the previous quarter to 58 pct in, according to the latest DHL quarterly export indicator.
The survey also found 43 pct of manufacturing firms believe the euro would benefit their businesses, compared with 37 pct in the fourth quarter.
The proportion of firms believing the euro would have a negative impact fell to 12 pct from 20 pct in the previous quarter.
On confidence, the indicator showed that 56 pct of UK exporters expected to increase their U.S. orders compared with 57 pct in the fourth quarter.
Some 78 pct of firms believed the strength of sterling had a negative impact on sales as against 75 pct in the previous quarter.
