1 March 2001, 16:23  TODAY: GERMAN GROWTH SLOWS IN Q4

Q4 GDP grew 0.2% on the quarter and 1.9% on the year, the Federal Statistics Office reported. This was the slowest pace of growth since Q2 1999. Q3 growth was revised down to up 0.3% on the quarter from an originally reported 0.6%. The annual rate of 2.8% was left unrevised. The Bundesbank reported that second-half growth was 1.0% compared with the first half. The Finance Ministry said after the data were released that the economy could continue to grow in 2001 and accelerate as the year wore on.
