8 February 2001, 14:25  Spain 2000 budget deficit -- 2 (corporate tax revenue up 17.5 pct)

The ministry said revenue from corporate taxes grew 17.5 pct annually in 2000, from income taxes by 4.9 pct, reflecting strong job creation, while indirect tax revenue rose 7.3 pct.
Revenue from VAT climbed 8.7 pct in 2000 from a year earlier, while special tax revenue increased 4.1 pct, with taxes on petroleum products up just 1.5 pct, it said.
On the spending side, the ministry said interest payments on government debt declined 7.3 pct in 2000 from a year earlier, while among the other categories only transfers, largely to the autonomous regions, showed notable growth, rising 12.1 pct.
Investments rose 4.9 pct to over 1 trln ptas, it added.
