Tokyo--Feb. 8--Unadjusted real spending by all households in Japan
rose 2.1% on the year in December, while seasonally adjusted real spending
by all households in December rose 1.6% from the previous month, the
Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications
said Thursday.
The ministry also said real spending by non-wage earning Japanese
households gained 5.5% on the year in December. The adjusted spending in
October-December was up 0.2% on the quarter, suggesting that personal
consumption in Japan's gross domestic product (GDP) for the period will
rise on the quarter.

The ministry said spending by all households in 2000 decreased 0.9% on
