ROME (AFX) - New car registrations rose 3.14 pct year-on-year in January to 274,000 units, the transport ministry said.
Used car ownership transfer registrations were up 16.39 pct year-on-year in January to 281,185 units.
Among leading national brands, new car registrations for Fiat fell to 73,040 units, down 0.69 pct from a year earlier; Lancia Autobianchi rose to 16,200, up 0.36 pct and Alfa Romeo rose to 10,840, up 8.53 pct, the transport ministry said.
Among leading foreign brands, Opel rose to 24,830 units, up 0.28 pct; Volkswagen rose to 24,200, up 9.25 pct and Renault rose to 20,850, up 17.31 pct.
