The underlying rate of inflation, RPIX, unexpectedly fell in January to its lowest annual rate in 25 years as petrol prices continued their decline over the month, official figures showed. RPIX fell 0.7% on the month, bringing the annual rate down to 1.8% from 2.0% in December. Analysts had expected the rate to stay steady.
