9 January 2001, 10:59  Europe FX Opening: Summary of overnight moves and... - Part 2

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: A light day of economic data releases will leave the foreign exchange markets with few factors to trade off, which may constrain trading ranges. Flows will determine trading, with market participants waiting to see if enough momentum can be generated to resume the euro's push higher and extend the dollar's gains against the yen. German unemployment is the only euro zone economic data release, with Swiss unemployment and Canadian housing starts the only notable data elsewhere. Attention will turn to the U.K. interest rate debate, ahead of the start of the 2-day Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee meeting on Wednesday.
