9 January 2001, 10:05  U.S. STOCKS: After an up and down day Dow and Nasdaq ended with only

moderate losses vs drops of about 100 points in both indices during afternoon trade. Dow ended off about 41 points while the Nasdaq ended down a mere 11 points. S&P 500 ended down just about 2 1/2 points. Within the blue chips, financial stocks were a little soft with Citigroup down about 1/4 at $53 1/2 while GE, often include in the financials group on account of its credit arm, fell $1 3/4 to $45 1/2. Over on the Nasdaq, Cisco and Intel both weighed on the index early in the session losing $2 3/4 and $1 1.2 respectively but both ended off by just a dime or so at $36 1/2 and $32 respectively.
