Washington--Jan. 7--The U.S. economy is "deteriorating rather quickly" and the "need is obvious" for a stimulative tax cut, Lawrence Lindsey, President-elect George W. Bush's top economic adviser, said. Lindsey said that while Wednesday's surprise Fed rate cut will help shore up financial markets, a tax cut is still needed to boost consumer spending.
