U.S. STOCKS: Dow ended with modest losses of about 33 points while the
Nasdaq gave up about 50 points of yesterday's meteoric gains, a better
performance than some had expected. Dow was weighed by components
Pfizer, off $2 at $41 1/2, and J&J, down about $2 1/4 at $96 1/2 and
IBM, off about $2 at $92 3/4 after posting hefty gains Wednesday. Other
winners include MSDW, up over $5 on an investment house upgrade, Bear
Stearns, up $1 1/2 on stronger than expected earnings and JP Morgan
Chase, up $1 1/2. Nasdaq losses were paced by Intel, Amgen,
Sun-Microsystems, Symantec and Dell. S&P 500 ended down about 14 points.
