29 January 2001, 10:16  The Nikkei rose for the first time in five days

Tokyo--Jan. 29--The Nikkei rose for the first time in five days, closing up 149.22 points, or 1.1%, at 13,845.28, on short-covering following the Nasdaq's rise on Friday coupled with a slightly better-than-expected industrial output data in Japan. However, the upside was limited amid a wait-and-see mood ahead of Tuesday's U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, traders said.
