TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Retail sales fell 5.4 pct year-on-year in December after declining by a revised 4.2 pct in November, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
The ministry provided the following December year-on-year data:
Department store sales - down 2.5 pct
Supermarket sales - down 8.0 pct
Food and beverage sales - down 4.8 pct
Clothing sales - down 4.9 pct
Others - down 6.8 pct
