26 January 2001, 17:59 MOF's Miyazawa: US econ slowdown may cut Japan's growth 0.4%-0.6%
--Japan's MOF Miyazawa says expects 2-3% US econ growth in 2001
By Bruce Ellsworth, BridgeNews
Tokyo--Jan. 26--A slowing of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) growth
from 5% to 2-3% would likely lower Japan's annual GDP growth rate by
0.4-0.6 percentage points, Japan's Minister of Finance Kiichi Miyazawa
said Friday.
However, Miyazawa added that he would not be concerned if the US
experienced 0% growth in any one quarter because he still expects the US
to enjoy annual growth of 2-3% in calendar year 2001.

Speaking at a regular press conference, Miyazawa was agreeing with an
assessment of the potential negative impact on Japan of slower U.S. growth
rates made by Kazumasa Iwata, director general at the Cabinet Office,
earlier in the week.
