26 January 2001, 17:52  Japan's domestic auto output rises 4.7% on year in December

Tokyo--Jan. 26--Domestic production of cars, trucks and buses in Japan for December rose 4.7% on year to 807,506 vehicles, increasing for the first time in two months, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association reported Friday.
Total production in 2000 was 10,144,847 units, up 2.5% over the previous year, the first time annual output has gone over 10 million units in two years.
* * * In December only, production of passenger cars rose 4.3% to 667,766 units and truck output grew by 6.4% to 8,090 units and buses rose 2.3% to 4,279 units, the association added.
As a result, output of passenger cars for the full year went up 3.3% on year to 8,363,485 units, the first year on increase in two years. Trucks fell 1.2% to 1,726,818 units for the six consecutive year, while buses surged 12.7% to 54,544 units.
