London--Jan. 25--The U.K.'s goods trade with non-EU countries was wider than expected in December, swelling to a record 2.821 billion sterling from 2.317 billion sterling in November, according to figures published Thursday by the Office for National Statistics. But despite the latest deterioration in the non-EU trade gap, the ONS said that the trend in the goods trade gap was now fairly flat. This is the first time it has not described it as widening since September 1999 and represents a gentle improvement in its assessment of underlying developments.
