24 January 2001, 09:28  US DEPT STORES UP 2.4% IN JAN VS DEC

U.S. same-store seasonally adjusted sales rose 2.4% in January vs. December, according to Redbook Research estimates based on data for the week ended Jan 20, slowing from the previous week's 2.6% pace. The target for January calls for 2.3% gain. The same-store sales index rose 3.4% seasonally adjusted vs. the year-ago month. The index climbed 2.9% compared with the same week one year ago, not seasonally adjusted.
