23 January 2001, 10:54 French December consumer spending down 0.3% on month, lower than forecast
Paris--Jan. 23--French consumer spending on manufactured goods fell a
seasonally adjusted 0.3% in December, a slowdown from the revised 0.6%
rise the month before as purchases of automobiles and household goods
cooled off, national statistics institute INSEE said Tuesday. With a
year-on-year rise of 2.4% in December, the data was below analysts'
forecasts of a 0.1% monthly increase and 2.9% annual gain.
