23 January 2001, 10:21  US leading indicators fall 0.6% in December; November -0.4%

New York--Jan. 22--A key economic forecasting gauge fell in December, suggesting the U.S. economy continues to slow down but a recession is not in the cards, the Conference Board said. The index of leading economic indicators, designed to forecast trends in the economy six to nine months in advance, fell 0.6% in December to 108.3, the Conference Board said.
