Weak results and lackluster outlooks from the first wave of the earnings season have not hurt share prices, as hopes instead build that the U.S. economy will begin to turn up in the third quarter. The Dow industrials Friday closed down 90.69, 0.85%, at 10,587.59. The Nasdaq composite rose 1.89, to 2,770.38. The S&P 500 slipped 5.43%, 0.40%, to 1,342.54.
