TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Corporate bankruptcy liabilities in December
rose 111.9 pct year-on-year to 831.8 bln yen, compared with a rise of
119.3 pct to 1.22 trln yen the previous month, Teikoku Databank said.
The number of corporate bankruptcy cases in December rose 0.2 pct
year-on-year to 1,550, it said.
This was the 14th consecutive year-on-year rise in the number of
cases, while the level of liabilities was the fifth highest for the
month of December since records begun.
The largest collapse in October was S&D, which had debt of 86.2 bln
yen followed by Marutomi, with debt of 76.1 bln yen.
In 2000, the number of bankruptcy cases totaled 19,071, up 23.4
pct, while liabilities were 23.9 trln yen, up 77.0 pct.
