U.S. share prices end quietly mixed Tuesday as the market awaits the unfolding ofthe earnings season. The Nasdaq composite ended down 7.95 points, or 0.30%, to2,618.55. The Dow industrials were ukp 127.28, 1.21%, to 10,652.66. The S&P 500rose 8.33, or 0.64%, to 1,326.65. Volumes were modest. The earnings season got underway Tuesday, the beginning of a two-week period when U.S. companies will post their fourth-quarter results, and more importantly, offer their projections for the coming quarter. Profits for the fourth quarter are expected to show a fractional rise, while profits ahead are uncertain.
